THE AL MISH'AAL PROJECT

Becky was invited by community arts organisation, Gentle/Radical, to facilitate a drop-in cardboard sculpture workshop.  This was one of many creative activities being facilitated by artists as part of the launch day for the year-long Al Mish-aal Project at their new Wyndham Street Centre in Cardiff.

The word 'mish'aal' means fire, and these quick cardboard sculpture fires are representative of the those lit by travelling nomadic tribes when setting up an overnight base in the desert.  The fire could be seen from great distances, bringing people together, acting as a sign of welcome for others to share in the food and water.
